WELCOME TO CHATEAU HOŘOVICE
The Baroque chateau Hořovice lies 50 km southwest of Prague and it offers 3 tours, permanent and seasonal exhibitions.
According to written documents the medievel manor house has been standing in Hořovice since the 13th century. The owners of the estate were the noblemen of Žirotín, King Wenceslaus IV., the noblemen of Říčany and so one. The noblemen of Martinice obtained it like sized property after 1620. The Counts of Vrbno got it through marriage. They decided to build a new representative Baroque chateau with an interesting architectural concept. The chateau was created from a central buildings with wings, which enclose the honorable courtyard and which open to the park. Similar projects of Baroque aristocratic residences in Bohemia were designed by Giovanni Alliprandi. The present look is also a result of later renovations. The ownership of the chateau changed in 1852. The Counts of Vrbno sold it to Hessian Elector Friedrich Wilhelm, Prince of Hanau. The Hanaus brought some family collections from their chateaus in Central Germany. The family was forced to return to Germany after the World War II. The most impressive things are the stair-hall with Baroque fresco, the main hall, the music salon dedicated do the genius violin player Josef Slavík, the library and dinning room. There is a park with Baroque sculptures of M. B. Braun and the so called „Sun Gate“ in the area.
I. tour: The chateau interior from the 18th to the begin of the 20th century. The representative suites in the first floor. The living chambers of the last aristocratic owners of the chateau. (Guided tour a. 60 min.) Next no-guided visit of the cast-iron gallery of Podbrdsko from the property of the Museum of Bohemian karst in Beroun.
II. tour: The chateau interior of the last owners. Private apartments. (Guided tour a. 60 min.) The tour will made available during the year 2009.
III. tour: The games and toys of young aristocrats. The exhibition of the aristocratic children´s toys from the collection of Middle-Bohemian estate castles and chateau. Parlour games, dolls, a functional railway-model. (Guided tour a. 30 min.)
Permanent exhibitions : The exhibition of music boxes (automatophones) from the collection of the Czech music museum.
